The
long awaited new album by the ongoing duo of Stephen O'Malley (Sunn
O))), Gravetemple) and Peter Rehberg (Pita) is the first full length
KTL release that is not commissioned work for theatre or film. Whereas
the 'Kindertotenlieder' trilogy of 1, 2 and 3 were blurred washes of
fog and noise polished in by ambient shine, "IV" is a more direct and
demanding beast, referencing such diverse projects as; volume era
Swans, Mecca period Cabaret Voltaire, phase one Wire, Fushitsusha and
This Heat... "IV" is a stunning new direction and great addition to
both artists' already impressive canon, with blowtorch riffs... sub
bass rumbles... driving bass pulse interwoven with razor sharp
guitar... arhythmic and punishing drumming (courtesy of Atsuo, from
Japanese top-rockers Boris)... black frozen resonant harmonics.
Produced by Jim O'Rourke. Luxurious, heavyweight double 12" vinyl
edition in gatefold sleeve, with a mounted 7" vinyl, an obi strip and
printed inner sleeves. Limited to 500 copies. Ultra-expensive, ultra
plush Japanese import.
To
celebrate their European tour together, the astoundingly prodigious
trio from Ohio and the punishing Japanese noise legend take a track
each on this limited release. Emeralds' track 'Landlocked' journeys
further through the planet they share with Popol Vuh and Terry Riley...
then is violently usurped by Pain Jerk's aptly titled 'Berserker',
which features Rudolf Eb.er and Mai Sau in a noise/voice/aktion
showdown. Ltd x 500 copies in a gatefold digisleeve.
With
their third full length CD, 15 Degrees Below Zero re-introduce the
listener to their signature blend of guitar, digital and analog
atmospheres, and noise. The trio continue to explore a territory of
noise-oriented soundscapes, rich drones, flowing ambient and
compositional narratives that emerge between the planes of discord and
melody, but with this release, a feeling of spaciousness underlies the
existing tension.
Hammemit
is the new recording moniker for infamous UK black-noise / ambient
figure U.I. / Malachi, with additional members. "Spires Over The Burial
Womb" continues the atmosphere found on some of the last (perhaps
transitional) Emit
recordings (e.g. "Mother of Blood"). Deeply mysterious with a heavy
religious influence. Subtle ambience, a suitable soundtrack for
complete isolation in a variety of locations, certainly ancient English
ruins. File next to Dapnom, Ondo, Burial Hex etc.
